Our Story
Established in 2019, the Metropolitan Clinical Research Institute (MECRI) was founded to address a critical gap in clinical research infrastructure in Limpopo Province.
Despite a significant disease burden and a large population, the region had historically lacked access to structured, high-quality clinical research. MECRI was created to change this reality — by establishing a world-class, GCP-compliant clinical research centre that brings innovative therapies and cutting-edge research opportunities directly to local communities.

Dr Mabowa Tshifhiwa Makhomisane
Primary Healthcare Physician & Diabetologist
Dr Makhomisane leads all clinical trials and oversees GCP-compliant research operations at MECRI. With extensive experience in primary healthcare and diabetes management, he brings both clinical expertise and a deep commitment to ethical, community-centred research.
